The Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia holds the largest collection of Magnolias in Latvia with 16 different species and varieties. Some of the trees have reached a spectacular size, since they have been planted before 50 years. In Latvia only the frost-resistant species and varieties can survive, so the diversity is limited, still the introduction that was started in 1956 is continued till nowadays.
